People are the lifeblood of every utility business. Yes, there's the network, the service supplied over the network and IT systems that help the business manage and bill it's customer base. But it is people who maintain the network and the IT systems, oversee the billing process and handle day-to-day contact with customers.
Yet this lifeblood is managed and monitored using a combination of gut feeling and spreadsheets. Contrast this with the network ot the IT systems, which are monitored and managed on a minute-by-minute basis, and the way that we manage people begins to seem somewhat outdated.
