Win in the Now Economy - Gartner Interview
Today, it's winning in the "Now Economy", not in the "New Economy", that preoccupies businesses. In this landscape threats appear suddenly and devastatingly. Jobs move off shore, financial strength moves to Europe, the world's eyes move to terrorism, and many businesses move too late.
Atlantic Global recently asked Gartner analyst Mark Raskino (Vice Predident in Gartner Research), his opinion on some of the challenges facing businesses in their quest for "Real-Time" Information and operational efficiency.

Q. Gartner believes that every organisation will need to develop more real-time awareness over the next few years. Can you comment on some of the benefits of this?
A. We are living in a turbulent and unpredictable world, and business leaders know this. Companies need to be able to detect oncoming threats and opportunities earlier than they used to, and respond to them more quickly. In increasingly globalised and transparent markets, this is a competitive issue: When do you know there is a problem, or an opportunity? When can your management team make a decision? How can they reorganise resources to do something about it, and how quickly can they respond? These are the key issues that the real-time enterprise addresses: reducing end-to-end cycle times, helping people to detect changes earlier and respond faster. From that point of view, it is important to everybody. It doesn't necessarily appear as a headline project, or a separate mission statement: "We will become a real-time enterprise." Some companies will take it that way. For others the evolution will be more organic, and less explicit.
